"It even has its Calibre Connect"

 |  Version: Calibre (64-bit) 2.37.1

Pros

Great for power users, try the down arrows for the functions in the main icons. Sort, search or view by a title or an author, cover and grid. A bevy of preferences and has programmable expressions, it even guides you to a mini-course.

Cons

Maybe too many options for new users. It might get complicated for them. But for power users no problem. Besides having duplicate find and get rid of duplicates automatically when you add ebooks to your calibre it doesn't have a way to find them later. Should get a regular menu interface also for those accustomed to Alt+F or Alt+H for help (to check the version) and upgrades even though they show up in the bottom right.

Summary

As far as I've seen its very complete, with many sorts of ebook file extensions. Many functions and subfunctions options. Very programmable and its open source

"Will not let you organize your books."

 |  Version: Calibre (64-bit) 1.46

Pros

It will open epub files.

Cons

I wanted an epub reader that would let me add folders for each author and series so that I could keep all of my books organized for easy reference. However this program not only doesn't allow this but also crams all of the files together and frequently changes the metadata on them so that they aren't even organized in the sidebar options panel correctly.
This wouldn't be such a big deal if I only had five eBooks instead of over a hundred, as it is, the awful interface and horrible programming they have implemented "to sort your books FOR you" doesn't do its job.

Summary

If you're looking for a good epub reader, keep looking. This program is not worth the time.

"Greatest freeware program on the web!"

 |  Version: Calibre (64-bit) 0.9.25

Pros

Manage multiple devices
Convert most eBook formats
Sort by many different criteria
User-definable fields
Loads metadata and pictures easily
Speedy load and use of program

Cons

None. Updates are frequent and fix most minor bug issues.

Summary

I consider this to be one of the best freeware programs on the web. It is worth a donation to the author because of all the features and how well it works. I manage over 1500 books on four different devices without a hitch.

"The Best e-book manager and more"

 |  Version: Calibre (64-bit) 0.9.24

Pros

Fantastic it is available for 64bit machines. Loading my ebooks into Calibre was fast and easy. It's great to get my favourite daily newspapers in Calibre as well. There are links to dozens of ebook sellers free and paid for. It reads epubs well. Haven't tried the conversion yet, but I am sure that too will be simple. Very, very happy with it.

Cons

I had to go to Calibres own website to download it. Because on all versions through cnet I kept getting an error message stating the Installation package could not be opened and to verify with the vendor this is a valid installer.

Summary

Calibre is a versatile ebook manager which is easy to operate without even having to look in the user manual. It can fetch daily newspaers which is a bonus. It can read dozens of file formats and overall it is worthy of the #2 spot.
